This painting is of a young mother and her baby at Ellis Island in the early 1900s. Millions of people immigrated to America through Ellis Island, wanting to start a new, better life. Today, one in four Americans can trace their heritage to immigrants who came through Ellis Island. This is #2 in a series of 24 portraits that are the Ellis Island Immigrants - Faces of America.
